SM Prime is Building for a Smarter, Cleaner Energy Future

February 10, 2026 0 Comments
SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SM Prime) strengthens its position as a national leader in sustainable property development as it continues to deliver low-carbon office spaces, energy-efficient retail environments, and climate-resilient infrastructure across the Philippines. Through decades-long investments in innovation, clean energy, and strategic partnerships, SM Prime is reshaping the future of urban development—with sustainability at the core of every mall, office tower, and integrated destination it builds.

A Sustainable Future for All

Photo caption: A sustainable future for all. The iconic SM Mall of Asia—one of the world’s largest malls—stands as a benchmark for resilient, sustainable retail development, reinforcing SM Prime’s commitment to responsible and future-proofed business strategies.

From Efficiency to Impact: Long-Term Energy Efficiency at Scale

SM Prime began its energy efficiency journey as early as the 1990s, long before sustainability became an industry-wide requirement. Over the years, the company has deployed wide-scale upgrades, including:

LED lighting retrofits and optimized illumination systems
High-efficiency air-conditioning and ventilation systems (ACVS)
Advanced Building Management Systems (BMS) for smarter energy use
Operational optimizations across all malls and offices

These long-term investments have delivered significant results. In 2024 alone, SM Supermalls achieved:

38% reduction in electricity consumption
156,736 metric tons of avoided greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
₱2.3 billion in electricity savings

SM Prime's strong performance in energy efficiency was recognized at the 5th Energy Efficiency Excellence Awards of the Department of Energy (DOE), where SM Supermalls, SM Offices, and SM Hotels each received multiple Certificates of Excellence. These achievements highlight a collective effort across engineering teams, tenants, service providers, and millions of customers—powered by the company’s commitment to the SM Green Movement.

Renewable Energy Milestones: Scaling Solar, Powering Communities

As part of its aspiration to achieve Net Zero by 2040, SM Prime continues to make clean energy accessible and scalable across its developments.

A historic milestone was recently achieved at SM City North Edsa, where SM Prime celebrated 100 megawatts (MW) of combined on-site renewable energy generation across 59 properties—one of the largest solar power capacities among Philippine property developers.

Photo caption: A historic 100MW milestone. SM North Edsa—the first Philippine mall to install a rooftop solar photovoltaic system—continues to push forward SM Prime’s clean energy and community-focused sustainability mission.

Today, more than 50% of the total energy consumed by SM Supermalls comes from renewable sources, supported by partnerships with:

Aboitiz Renewables
TotalEnergies
Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation
Leading local solar developers

SM Prime has also committed to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in partnership with WWF-Philippines, aligning its climate targets with global standards for carbon reduction.

Sustainable Retail Architecture Designed to Work with Nature

SM Prime’s approach to sustainable development goes beyond technology—it is integrated into the very architecture of its malls. SM properties maximize natural energy through:

High ceilings and wide atriums
Skylights and clerestory windows for natural illumination
Open and shaded spaces for passive cooling
Natural ventilation in strategic areas

These design principles reduce daytime energy use while enhancing customer experience by creating bright, airy, and inviting environments ideal for dining, shopping, and leisure.

Complementing these passive design features are innovative smart technologies such as:

Motion-sensor escalators
Energy-efficient cooling systems
Solar-powered outdoor features

Together, these elements position SM Supermalls as a preferred retail destination for brands and customers seeking sustainable, comfortable, and future-ready spaces.
Shared Climate Benefits for Communities and Businesses

“Customer expectations evolve quickly,” said Steven Tan, President of SM Supermalls. “Brands today—from luxury labels to MSMEs—are choosing partners who prioritize circularity, environmental responsibility, and meaningful ESG impact.”

Tan added, “We remain committed to making our malls as energy-efficient as possible. By expanding advanced technologies and adopting global best practices, SM Supermalls aims to reduce environmental impact while improving quality of life for the communities we serve.”

Through the SM Green Movement, SM Prime continues to scale its climate programs and invest in resilient infrastructure—paving the way for a safer, greener, and more sustainable Philippines.

Cyberzone Made E-Waste Disposal Easy: 14,000+ kg Collected Through Strategic Drop-off Points

February 10, 2026 0 Comments
Cyberzone continues to champion responsible technology consumption by making e-waste disposal simple, accessible, and part of everyday mall habits. Through its strategic partnership with SM Cares, Smart Communications, and PLDT Home, Cyberzone has built a nationwide system of E-Waste Collection Drop-Off Points located inside SM Supermalls—giving Filipinos an easy, reliable way to dispose of old gadgets and broken electronics safely.

This initiative directly supports Cyberzone’s #TechWeLikeZoneWeLove commitment: to guide communities toward smarter, safer, and more sustainable tech practices. By bringing e-waste solutions to where people already shop, dine, and spend time, Cyberzone ensures that sustainability becomes a normal part of the tech experience.

Making Good Habits Convenient for All

Launched in June 2024, the program rolled out dedicated e-waste collection bins across participating SM Supermalls nationwide. These drop-off points are positioned in highly visible and accessible mall areas—69 of which are located within or near Cyberzone—ensuring convenience for shoppers who want to do the right thing but often don’t know how or where to start.

With electronics being replaced faster than ever, e-waste has become one of the world’s fastest-growing waste streams. Many households have drawers full of unused chargers, broken phones, outdated routers, and damaged accessories that eventually end up in landfills when not properly disposed of. Cyberzone’s initiative addresses this growing concern by turning responsible disposal into an easy and familiar mall routine.

14,327 kg of E-Waste Properly Collected and Handled

Since the start of the partnership, Cyberzone’s E-Waste Collection Drop Boxes have gathered an impressive 14,327 kilograms of electronic waste across 89 SM Supermalls. These materials were properly collected, segregated, and channeled toward appropriate handling and recycling processes.

The achievement reflects the growing awareness and participation of mallgoers who now recognize the importance of e-waste responsibility. It also shows how accessible solutions—clear drop-off points, consistent placement, and mall-wide visibility—empower communities to make environmentally sound decisions.

Through this system, old tech is prevented from ending up in landfills, where harmful substances like lead, mercury, and cadmium can contaminate soil and water. Instead, disposed electronics are directed toward processes that recover valuable materials, reduce environmental harm, and encourage a circular economy.

A Shared Commitment to Planet-Friendly Tech Practices

“We take pride in being the go-to tech destination for shoppers,” shared Patrick Pacla, Vice President for Cyberzone Operations and Marketing at SM Supermalls. “But as gadgets evolve, so does the need to dispose of old electronics responsibly. Everyone has a role to play, and Cyberzone is committed to making it simpler and safer to do the right thing, so tech does not end up harming the planet.”

Cyberzone’s ongoing collaboration with SM Cares and its telco partners reinforces the program’s goal of long-term scalability. As new SM malls open and Cyberzone branches expand, more e-waste collection bins will be added—bringing the initiative closer to building an #SMWasteFreeFuture.

What Happens to Your Old Gadgets After Drop-Off?

Many shoppers wonder about the journey of their discarded devices. Cyberzone provides transparency through an educational video that shows the step-by-step process of e-waste handling, from drop-off to responsible disposal.

Sustainability That Moves With the Future of Tech

Cyberzone and SM Cares are committed to evolving sustainability efforts alongside rapid technological change. By offering practical solutions to modern waste problems, the partnership empowers communities to adopt better habits while shaping a more responsible tech ecosystem for the next generation.

For updates, announcements, and the latest in tech, follow SM Cyberzone on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

SM Prime’s Green Movement maximizes scalable sustainability through SM Supermalls

February 10, 2026 0 Comments
The SM Green Movement, SM Prime Holdings Inc.’s flagship sustainability initiative, continues to demonstrate how strategic, collective action can address environmental challenges at scale. Since its launch, the program has united communities, partners, and millions of mallgoers toward one mission: to protect and preserve the planet’s resources for present and future generations.

Long before sustainability became an industry requirement, SM Prime understood that lasting environmental impact can only be achieved through consistent, community-driven, and long-term programs. This foresight guided the development of sustainability initiatives designed to evolve alongside shifting stakeholder expectations, regulatory landscapes, and shareholder responsibilities.

Leveraging the national footprint of SM Supermalls, SM Prime embedded sustainability directly into mall operations—engaging customers, tenants, and local communities in everyday environmental action. This strategic “micro to macro” approach strengthens the SM Green Movement by building a unified, scalable framework centered on three core pillars: Waste Management, Water Stewardship, and Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy.

“What began as simple actions—reducing waste, conserving water, and embracing cleaner energy—has grown into an interconnected sustainability ecosystem involving partners, tenants, employees, and millions of Filipinos nationwide,” said Joaquin San Agustin, SM Supermalls Executive Vice President for Marketing. “By transforming everyday habits into measurable environmental results, the SM Green Movement brings sustainability into the heart of Filipino communities.”
Three Core Pillars of the SM Green Movement

1. Waste Management: Closing the Loop Through Circularity

At the heart of the program’s waste pillar is SM’s close collaboration with recycling partners and SM GUUN, the movement’s circularity platform. Together, they work to divert various materials—including paper, plastics, multi-layer packaging, and compostables—away from landfills.

By establishing recycling touchpoints throughout SM malls, the program empowers mallgoers to participate in disposal habits that reduce waste, promote circularity, and encourage mindful consumption. SM GUUN also pioneers accessible recycling solutions such as PET bottle collection, waste-buying kiosks, and easy drop-off systems.

2. Water Stewardship: Building a Water-Resilient Future

SM Prime’s water stewardship efforts are anchored in long-term systems and conservation practices developed over decades. SM Supermalls pioneered water recycling in retail environments, installing early sewage treatment plants (STPs) and adopting low-flow fixtures to reduce water consumption across properties.

These infrastructures strengthen resilience against water scarcity, reduce operational reliance on freshwater resources, and protect communities during climate-related disruptions.

3. Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy: Powering Malls Sustainably

Energy management is another cornerstone of the SM Green Movement, focusing on efficiency and renewable energy adoption to minimize environmental impact. SM’s continuing expansion of solar rooftop installations—highlighted by the 100MWp milestone celebration at SM City North Edsa—demonstrates how clean energy can support climate action while enhancing mall comfort and reliability.

The widespread use of LED lighting, energy-efficient HVAC systems, and automated building management systems further reduces carbon footprint across SM properties.
Sustainability Through Shared Responsibility

What binds SM Prime’s three sustainability pillars is a fundamental principle: environmental progress is only possible when communities move together. For SM Supermalls, sustainability is not a corporate project but a shared journey built on awareness, participation, and consistency.

Through mall-based campaigns, recycling hubs, educational activations, and green partnerships, the SM Green Movement encourages Filipinos to make sustainability part of their daily lives—turning simple acts into collective impact.

With measurable progress across waste, water, and energy portfolios, and with strong collaborations with NGOs, government agencies, and private partners, the SM Green Movement continues to lay the groundwork for meaningful, lasting environmental change throughout the Philippines.

“The SM Green Movement reflects our vision to transform simple actions into systemic impact,” San Agustin added. “By advancing energy, water, and waste initiatives across our malls, we protect communities and help shape a more sustainable future for all.”

SM Supermalls expands its nationwide presence for Pickleball

February 10, 2026 0 Comments
Pickleball has officially found its home in SM Supermalls, solidifying the company’s leadership in fostering active lifestyles and accessible sports experiences for Filipinos. Through the SM Sports and Lifestyle Center (SLC), SM continues to grow the sport by expanding permanent pickleball court locations—including new sites at SM Center Shaw and SM Center Muntinlupa—providing athletes and enthusiasts more venues for both friendly and competitive play.

By the end of 2025, SM Supermalls recorded 61 pickleball court locations nationwide, with 37 permanent courts, the largest number among any mall operator in the Philippines. This expansion reinforces SM’s mission to support the growing pickleball community and deliver world-class sports facilities to customers of all ages and skill levels.

Empowering the Growing Pickleball Community in the Philippines

Through its launch of SM Active Hub, the country’s largest sports playground, SM Supermalls has energized the local pickleball movement. Embedded within SLC’s vision of revolutionizing sports engagement nationwide, SM Active Hub encourages tournament play, friendly gatherings, group exercise, and accessible sports learning for thousands of Filipinos.

“We launched SM Active Hub with a clear intention—to give athletes, enthusiasts, and even casual players high-quality and easily accessible spaces where they can enjoy sports, whether for lighthearted fun or high-adrenaline competition,” said Joaquin San Agustin, SM Supermalls Executive Vice President for Marketing. “Closing 2025 with our largest number of pickleball court locations while adding new permanent courts in SM Center Shaw and SM Center Muntinlupa shows that sports has become not just a hobby, but a lifestyle for our customers.”

The newly opened pickleball facilities—developed in partnership with Paloo—feature three outdoor permanent courts at SM Center Shaw and four indoor permanent courts at SM Center Muntinlupa. Both locations are designed with high-quality flooring, proper dimensions, and affordable rates to welcome both seasoned picklers and first-time players.

The Home of Elevated and Accessible Sports Experiences

Through SM Active Hub, picklers nationwide have gained a dynamic environment where they can pursue fitness, community, and active living. Its modular court system allows SM to maximize sports spaces in malls, ensuring more areas are available for customers who want to play.

With the integration of the SM Malls Online App, users can seamlessly join sports communities, book courts, discover upcoming pickleball events, and access exclusive deals for sports-related activities and gear.

“Beyond permanent courts, we also have 24 semi-permanent courts across the country, ensuring that we can accommodate growing demand for the sport,” San Agustin added.

The rapid rise of SM courts—growing from 44 courts to 61 by end-2025—reflects how pickleball has become one of the Philippines’ most inclusive and fast-growing sports. With courts fully booked across many malls, SM is preparing to increase its total pickleball courts to nearly 80 by 2026.

“Pickleball is inclusive and easy to learn, which is why it has captured the interest of families, seniors, beginners, and competitive athletes alike. We’re embracing this opportunity to support active lifestyles nationwide,” San Agustin shared.

A Favorite Destination for Maxed-Out Pickleball Events

Active Hub continues to host some of the country’s most exciting pickleball events—from friendly gatherings to major competitions. Creative concepts such as the Glow Ball Pickleball Night give players a unique glow-in-the-dark sports experience, while free Pickleball Clinics help newcomers, kids, and families learn the game.

SM Active Hub is also home to the flagship SM Pickleball Super Series in partnership with Toby’s Sports, alongside multiple local tournaments and community events across the country.

In 2025, SM launched the Pickleball Power Tour featuring Filipino-American world-ranked pro-athlete Lauren Mercado, igniting aspiring players to pursue the sport. Due to its massive success, a second edition will take place within the first half of 2026.

“All these events reflect SM’s commitment to shaping the most creative, inclusive, and community-driven sports experiences in the Philippines. As long as Filipinos seek connection, fitness, and fun, SM will continue to give that passion a home,” said San Agustin.

SM Celebrates National Autism Consciousness Week with great strides in true inclusion

February 10, 2026 0 Comments
SM Supermalls is ushering in a bold new chapter as a truly Mall for All, highlighted by historic milestones unveiled during this year’s National Autism Consciousness Week (NACW). Through its Corporate Social Responsibility arm, SM Cares, the company reaffirmed its commitment to accessibility, empathy, and inclusive design with nationwide programs created to enhance the mall-going experience of Filipinos on the autism spectrum.

Throughout the week-long celebration, SM Supermalls rolled out innovations emphasizing acceptance, appreciation, and a deeper understanding of neurodiversity in everyday public spaces. These efforts spotlight SM’s mission to build welcoming places where every customer feels valued, comfortable, and safe.

“This year’s celebration of NACW marks a significant step forward for SM Supermalls as we hosted ‘Lights Up, Sounds Down’ (LUSD) and opened the first-ever ‘SM Sensory Lab’—the country’s only dedicated mall space for people with sensory processing challenges,” said Steven Tan, SM Supermalls President. “Beyond our year-round inclusivity programs, these milestones strengthen our commitment to ensuring every customer finds their most loved space at SM.”

SM Sensory Lab: A Groundbreaking Innovation in Inclusive Mall Spaces

The highlight of NACW 2026 was the launch of the SM Sensory Lab, a pioneering space developed to support children and adults who experience sensory processing challenges. Created in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA), and with guidance from the Autism Society Philippines, the Sensory Lab officially opened at SM Mall of Asia, becoming the country’s first mall-based calming corner.

Tan explained, “Opening the SM Sensory Lab was the natural next step in our journey toward becoming truly inclusive. We worked closely with our partners to ensure that every detail was thoughtfully considered, especially since this type of facility has never been done before in the Philippines.”

Designed with soft lighting, gentle textures, comfortable seating, and sensory-friendly elements, the SM Sensory Lab offers a quiet and relaxing environment that makes public spaces more manageable for individuals who may be overstimulated by typical mall settings. The room can accommodate up to ten people, ensuring that users and their guardians have ample space to decompress.

Accessibility is further enhanced through the SM Malls Online App, where customers can simply scan a QR code to access the Sensory Lab completely free of charge—a seamless digital solution that supports inclusive physical spaces.

Lights Up, Sounds Down: Making Movie Moments More Accessible

Another standout initiative during NACW was Lights Up, Sounds Down, a series of sensory-friendly movie screenings created to reduce common stressors in traditional cinema environments. Partnering with SM Cinema, the screenings featured adjusted brightness, reduced sound levels, and a judgment-free atmosphere tailored for children and adults on the autism spectrum.

“Something as ordinary as watching a movie can be overwhelming for individuals on the spectrum—and even challenging for their families,” said Tan. “Through LUSD, SM Cinema offers a safe and comfortable space where families can finally enjoy movies together without worry.”

What began as a single-mall initiative has now grown into a nationwide effort. More than 5,000 participants across multiple SM malls have joined the screenings, with SM City BF Parañaque and SM City Butuan newly added to the growing list of participating locations.

Driving Inclusion Beyond NACW

SM Cares continues to strengthen disability inclusion nationwide through information campaigns, employee training programs, and partnerships with advocacy groups. Frontliners—including security personnel, mall tenant staff, and mall operations teams—receive regular training on how to provide respectful, informed assistance to customers on the autism spectrum.

“Being an inclusive mall requires consistent, year-long commitment,” Tan emphasized. “Our NACW activities reinforce our dedication to empowering communities and ensuring that every SM Supermall remains accepting, appreciative, and accommodating of customers of all needs.”

Through these groundbreaking initiatives, SM Supermalls continues its transformation into a deeply inclusive environment—one that celebrates neurodiversity and ensures that every Filipino can find comfort, community, and belonging within its spaces.

SM amplifies grassroots ice sports development through third hosting of SEA Trophy

February 10, 2026 0 Comments
Largest Athlete Participation and Philippines’ Best Medal Haul Signal a Growing Pool of Future Skating Champions

SM Supermalls continues to cement its role as the home of Philippine ice sports as it proudly hosts the 2026 Southeast Asian (SEA) Open Short Track Speed Skating Trophy for the third consecutive year. With the competition returning to the Philippines, SM highlights the country’s momentum in the international ice sports arena—an opportunity the mall operator hopes will accelerate the development of young Filipino skating talent.

The SEA Trophy, designed as an entry-level international short track speed skating competition, provides an accessible yet highly structured training ground for athletes who are beginning to compete on the world stage. It has become an essential stepping stone for skaters seeking international exposure, professional experience, and opportunities to measure their skills against fellow athletes across Asia.

“We are thrilled with the results of this year’s SEA Trophy,” said Joseph Silva, Senior Assistant Vice President for SM Skating. “Since the tournament’s inaugural run, participation has grown year after year. This 2026 edition marks our highest turnout and the Philippines’ strongest medal haul yet. Coupled with the surge of interest in ice sports following our recent SEA Games victories, we see this as a pivotal moment to spotlight the potential of our young, emerging athletes.”

Record Participation: 90 Athletes and a Strong PH Finish

On its third Philippine staging, the SEA Trophy recorded its largest athlete turnout to date, with 90 skaters aged 6 to 24 representing:

Philippines
Vietnam
Thailand
Singapore
Hong Kong
China
India
Indonesia

Team Philippines celebrated an exceptional performance, securing a total of 29 medals:

12 Gold
11 Silver
6 Bronze

According to Nikki Cheng, President of the Philippine Skating Union, most participants are at the early stages of their competitive careers. “These young athletes gain more than medals—they gain exposure, confidence, and a chance to compete in a professional arena. Facing regional athletes exposes them to different skating styles and raises their standard of performance,” she explained.
SM as the Home of Ice Sports in the Philippines

SM has long been a steadfast advocate of ice sports, serving as the home of the SEA Trophy since 2023. This year’s event was held at the Olympic-sized rink of SM Skating Mall of Asia, one of the country’s premier and most established ice sports venues. The competition was organized by SM Skating and the SM Sports and Leisure Center (SLC), with support from the International Skating Union (ISU) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

The SEA Trophy is more than a tournament—it is a development platform that promotes:

Global participation in ice sports
Athlete skill progression
Coaching development
Cross-border collaboration
International exposure for emerging skaters

“Beyond providing world-class skating facilities, SM understands that true athletic growth happens when athletes face global competition,” Silva shared. “Events like the SEA Trophy challenge them, sharpen their discipline, and strengthen values like sportsmanship and camaraderie—qualities shaped only on the ice.”
A Launchpad for Future Champions

SM’s long-term investment in ice sports continues to produce promising athletes. SEA Games podium finisher Hans Buemio, who began skating at SM’s rinks as a child, is now the first Filipino homegrown speed skater to qualify for the ISU Junior World Cup series. He is already gearing up for his next international appearance in Utah.

Other emerging athletes have also thrived through the SEA Trophy. One standout is Bingzhen Dai, a Chinese skater who has been training at SM Skating facilities for two years and is a product of the tournament’s athlete development pipeline.

Silva hopes these athletes represent only the beginning: “With SM, our skating community will always have a home—one that provides inclusive, accessible, and world-class pathways for athletes to grow. Through the 2026 SEA Trophy, we look forward to discovering future champions and showcasing Filipino excellence to the world.”

Pursuit of a more biker-inclusive SM yields Record-breaking 36 wins from DOTr, Mobility Awards

February 10, 2026 0 Comments
When the COVID-19 pandemic brought the Philippines to a standstill, one of the most deeply felt disruptions was the sudden halt of public transportation. With strict social-distancing measures in place, millions of Filipinos lost access to everyday transport options that once enabled them to work, buy essentials, and reach vital services. In the absence of jeepneys, buses, and trains, biking quickly became a lifeline—empowering households to move safely and independently amid mobility restrictions.

Recognizing the urgency to support both its customers and surrounding communities, SM Supermalls stepped forward with a strong commitment to advancing Active Mobility in the Philippines. What began as a crisis response organically evolved into a long-term sustainability initiative. Today, SM Supermalls is regarded as one of the country’s most consistent and extensive advocates of bike-friendly spaces, with comprehensive programs implemented across all of its malls nationwide.

This commitment culminated in a historic milestone at the 2025 Mobility Awards, where SM earned an unprecedented 34 citations for its industry-leading efforts in promoting safe, inclusive, and sustainable travel.

From Pandemic Support to a Nationwide Bike Movement

“What began as a heartfelt initiative to support bikers during COVID has now become an integrated bike program spanning every single SM mall in the country,” shared Joaquin San Agustin, SM Supermalls Executive Vice President for Marketing. “Active Mobility plays a crucial role not just in preserving the environment but in enriching the lives of every Filipino. As part of our mission, SM will continue creating spaces where movement is safe, accessible, and inclusive for everyone.”

The early days of lockdown highlighted a clear need: safe passages and parking for cyclists who depended on their bikes for groceries, medicine, and work. Responding to this, SM Supermalls—together with its Corporate Social Responsibility arm SM Cares, its mall operations teams, and thriving local biking groups—ramped up efforts to create a supportive ecosystem for cyclists.

Building a Bike-Friendly Philippines Through Collaboration

According to Mina Kahn, SM Division Head and Assistant Vice President for Transportation Management, “It started with us setting up parking spots exclusive to bikes to help cyclists who relied on SM for essentials. When their numbers tripled even after lockdown, we knew we had to do more.”

This led to a nationwide replication of bike-friendly infrastructure, including:

Secure bike parking areas
Repair stations equipped with essential tools
Cushioned bike racks using upcycled tires
Integrated, intuitive bike lanes surrounding mall properties
Signages and markers for safer cycling routes
Community activities and events promoting the cycling lifestyle

Cycling groups also embraced SM malls as hubs for gatherings, fun rides, and weekend meetups. Many mall tenants even adjusted operating hours to accommodate early-morning cyclists—further proving how biking had become not just a mode of transport, but a lifestyle embraced by Filipinos.

SM’s Award-Winning Impact on Active Transport

SM’s ongoing initiatives led to 34 Mobility Awards in 2025, including:

1 Gold Award
11 Silver Awards
22 Bronze Awards

These honors reaffirm SM’s leadership in shaping sustainable mobility nationwide. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) also recognized SM for driving innovation in active transport through its Pedal Power 2025 initiative and its Sustainable Mobility and Bike-Friendly Program, both honored as notable contributions from the private sector.

Filipino Creativity and Sustainability Shine at the National Trade Fair at SM Supermalls

February 10, 2026 0 Comments
Filipino creativity took center stage as micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) showcased eco-friendly, design-driven, and proudly local products at the National Trade Fair held at SM Megamall, reinforcing the growing movement to support homegrown brands across the country. The event gathered entrepreneurs, shoppers, and partner organizations in a vibrant celebration of innovation, sustainability, and Filipino talent—proving once again that local enterprises are a powerful force in the national economy.

Visitors explored a diverse selection of locally made furniture, fashion, accessories, and handicrafts, each booth offering a unique story of passion, perseverance, and craftsmanship. From sustainable materials to culturally inspired designs, the fair highlighted how Filipino MSMEs continue to evolve—embracing responsible production while maintaining creativity and authenticity in every product.

Supporting MSMEs Through Community and Collaboration

The National Trade Fair at SM Supermalls served not only as a marketplace but also as a platform for meaningful connections. MSME owners engaged directly with customers, allowing shoppers to learn about the inspiration, process, and values behind each brand. This direct interaction strengthened trust, expanded market reach, and created long-term relationships that go beyond a single purchase.

Strong community participation throughout the event reflected the increasing public support for local enterprises and sustainable Filipino brands. Shoppers showed enthusiasm for discovering unique, locally made finds, recognizing that every purchase contributes to livelihood generation, cultural preservation, and economic growth.

Sustainability Meets Filipino Ingenuity

Sustainability remained a key theme throughout the fair. Locally crafted furniture, eco-conscious fashion pieces, and handmade accessories demonstrated how Filipino MSMEs are responding to global calls for responsible consumption. By using recycled, indigenous, and ethically sourced materials, these enterprises showed that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand.

In partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), SM Supermalls also championed indigenous tribes, whose intricately handcrafted furniture, bags, apparel, and accessories showcased generations of artistry and cultural heritage. These collaborations help elevate traditional craftsmanship while providing indigenous communities with sustainable income opportunities and broader market access.

Strong Partnerships Fuel MSME Growth

Representatives from partner organizations and industry leaders came together during the event to reaffirm their shared commitment to empowering MSMEs through collaboration and community-driven initiatives. Strong partnerships between the private sector, government agencies, and media organizations continue to open doors for Filipino entrepreneurs—creating platforms that encourage innovation, resilience, and long-term business growth.

The dynamic energy of the National Trade Fair reflected the increasing momentum behind MSME development nationwide, with events like these serving as catalysts for inclusive economic opportunities. By nurturing local talent and providing accessible venues for exposure, SM Supermalls remains a key supporter of Filipino entrepreneurship.

Celebrating NakakaLocal: A Nationwide Movement

Adding to the celebration was Philstar Media Group’s NakakaLocal Bazaar at SM Seaside City Cebu, which featured colorful festivities and a takeover of proudly Filipino brands. The celebration of local excellence continues next at SM City Baguio from February 27 to March 1, inviting more communities to experience the best of Filipino creativity and craftsmanship.

As entrepreneurs, partners, and shoppers come together in these curated bazaars, the message is clear: supporting MSMEs means investing in innovation, sustainability, and the future of Filipino talent. With strong community backing and collaborative efforts, Filipino enterprises continue to thrive—locally made, proudly Filipino, and ready for the world.
