SM Supermalls and PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group Forge Strong Partnership to Promote Cybersecurity Awareness Nationwide

September 14, 2025 0 Comments
In a landmark move to strengthen public awareness on online safety, SM Supermalls and the Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) have officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at the SM Supermalls Headquarters Boardroom in MOA Square, Pasay City. The collaboration emphasizes the growing need for cybersecurity awareness in the Philippines, especially as more Filipinos engage in digital transactions, social media, and online services daily.

Strengthening Cybersecurity Awareness for Every Filipino

The MOA signing was led by SM Supermalls executives and PNP officials, including Karen C. Zabaljauregui, Senior Assistant Vice President for SM Lifestyle, Inc.; Engr. Junias M. Eusebio, Vice President for Operations of SM Supermalls; PBGen. Matthew P. Baccay, PNP Acting Director for Investigation and Detention Management; and PBGen. Bernard R. Yang, Acting Director for PNP-ACG.

Through this partnership, SM Supermalls and SM Cinemas will provide free airtime for PNP-ACG’s educational campaigns. These videos will be played nationwide across SM Cinema screens and mall LED displays, reaching millions of mallgoers every day. The campaigns aim to educate Filipinos about the risks of cybercrime, promote responsible digital habits, and encourage active community participation in online safety initiatives.

Cybersecurity on the Big Screen

During the launch, the PNP-ACG unveiled its new cybersecurity awareness video, which will roll out nationwide in the coming weeks. By leveraging SM’s wide network of malls and cinemas, the campaign ensures that messages on cybercrime prevention reach diverse audiences—from students and families to professionals and business owners.

The PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group, tasked with preventing and investigating cybercrimes in the country, emphasized that online threats continue to evolve. From phishing and identity theft to online scams and hacking, cybercrimes pose risks to both individuals and businesses. Thus, public education is a crucial defense.
A United Stand Against Online Threats

“SM Supermalls is more than just a hub for shopping, leisure, and community gatherings. We are also a partner in ensuring the safety and well-being of millions of Filipinos who visit our malls and live their lives online,” said Engr. Junias M. Eusebio, Vice President for Operations of SM Supermalls.

He added that the partnership with the PNP-ACG is an extension of SM’s mission to create safe spaces not only in physical malls but also in the digital environment, where Filipinos increasingly spend their time.

Meanwhile, PBGen. Bernard R. Yang highlighted that fighting cybercrime requires both law enforcement expertiseand community cooperation. With partners like SM, public engagement is amplified, making nationwide awareness possible.
Beyond Shopping: SM as a Partner in Public Service

This initiative is part of SM Supermalls’ broader advocacy in supporting government services and protecting public welfare. For decades, SM has worked closely with government agencies to bring essential services closer to communities. Through its Government Service Express (GSE) hubs, SM malls host key government offices, offering services such as ID applications, permits, registrations, and renewals—making public service more accessible, convenient, and secure.

Now, with this partnership with the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group, SM reinforces its role as not just a retail leader but also a champion of digital safety and community empowerment.
Why Cybersecurity Matters Today

In today’s digital-first world, cybersecurity awareness is more critical than ever. As Filipinos embrace online banking, e-commerce, and social networking, they also face increasing exposure to scams, fraud, and identity theft. Partnerships like this one between SM Supermalls and PNP-ACG show how the private sector and government can work hand-in-handto safeguard citizens against digital threats.

SM Supermalls and CSC Celebrate 125 Years of Philippine Civil Service with Nationwide Job Fairs

September 14, 2025 0 Comments
In celebration of the 125th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (PCSA), SM Supermalls, in partnership with the Civil Service Commission (CSC), rolled out a series of nationwide job fairs designed to connect Filipinos with meaningful careers in public service. The collaboration highlights the enduring legacy of the Philippine civil service and its critical role in nation-building.

For many attendees, the job fairs were more than recruitment events—they were opportunities to pursue purpose-driven careers that contribute directly to the welfare of the Filipino people.

"I am happy that they came up with a job fair for government agencies. Many still want to serve and work for our government," shared jobseeker Ken Gonzaga, who submitted applications for several positions during the event at SM City North EDSA.

Public Service Careers Within Reach

The Civil Service Anniversary Job Fairs opened doors to thousands of vacancies across national government agencies, local government units (LGUs), government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs), and state universities and colleges (SUCs).

By hosting these fairs inside malls, CSC and SM Supermalls made the process of exploring career opportunities in public service more accessible, inclusive, and convenient for Filipinos from all walks of life. Applicants were also given briefings on available positions, ensuring they understood the unique impact of careers in government service.

"Our partnership with SM Supermalls makes it easier for Filipinos to explore careers in public service—opportunities that go beyond personal growth and contribute to the progress of our communities and the nation. The venue is well-organized, convenient, and accessible for jobseekers," said Mary Grace Dugay, Director III of the Civil Service Commission.
More Than Jobs: Building a Nation of Servants

While job placement was a primary goal, the initiative underscored a bigger message: public service is a calling. The job fairs highlighted the essential role of civil servants in driving social progress, inspiring a new generation of Filipinos to dedicate their skills and talents to building stronger communities.

"SM is honored to celebrate 125 years of Philippine Civil Service by opening our malls as venues where Filipinos can discover not just jobs, but meaningful careers in public service," said SM Supermalls President Steven Tan. "By working hand-in-hand with CSC and our government partners, we continue to support an empowered citizenry and sustainable nation-building."

For fresh graduates like Joanne Moriel, the event was an eye-opener. "Especially with what’s happening now in the country, I want to be part of the public sector to be able to help make a difference," she shared.
Job Fair Schedule Across the Philippines

As part of the PCSA’s milestone celebration, the Civil Service Anniversary Job Fairs were simultaneously mounted across multiple SM malls, including:

September 3 – SM City Tuguegarao

September 3–4 – SM CDO Downtown Premier and SM City Butuan

September 4 – SM City North EDSA

September 4–5 – SM City Iloilo

September 5 – SM City Legazpi

September 9 – SM City Baguio (final leg)

These events reaffirmed the commitment of SM Supermalls and CSC to empower Filipinos with stable, purpose-driven, and sustainable career opportunities.

SM Prime Reinforces the SM Green Movement: Simple Acts, Shared Impact for a Greener Tomorrow

September 14, 2025 0 Comments
As the world continues to face pressing environmental challenges, sustainability has become more than a buzzword—it is now a collective responsibility. SM Prime Holdings, Inc., one of Southeast Asia’s largest integrated property developers, is taking bold steps toward a greener tomorrow through the SM Green Movement, a company-wide sustainability initiative that empowers individuals and communities to take part in creating a more climate-resilient future.

Born during the height of the pandemic, the SM Green Movement started with small, personal stories: employees practicing mindful consumption at home, choosing to conserve water, reduce energy use, and recycle waste. These seemingly simple actions created ripples that grew into a full-scale movement, uniting SM Prime’s properties, stakeholders, and customers under one shared vision—to nurture the planet while supporting sustainable communities.

Turning Sustainability Goals Into Everyday Actions

The SM Green Movement focuses on three key pillars: waste management, water stewardship, and energy efficiency.By breaking down ambitious sustainability goals into achievable daily practices, the movement shows Filipinos that sustainability is not an abstract idea, but something that can be done every day.

Through these initiatives, SM Prime also advances its mission to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040. From building eco-friendly infrastructures to encouraging mallgoers to practice waste segregation, the campaign emphasizes that everyone has a role to play in building greener and more livable cities.

"The SM Green Movement is our way of showing care—care for our planet and care for the people who live in it," said Joaquin San Agustin, Executive Vice President for Marketing of SM Supermalls. "We’re not just building malls, homes, or offices—we’re building opportunities for everyone to be part of the solution. And the best part is, it starts with what we do every day."
Collaboration That Creates Lasting Change

At the core of the movement is collaboration. Real, long-term impact thrives when communities, businesses, and organizations work together. SM Prime partners with local government units, schools, NGOs, and individuals to develop solutions that not only address environmental concerns but also integrate into people’s daily lives.

"Our strength as a company comes from our ability to mobilize people around a common cause," San Agustin explained. "The SM Green Movement is about collective impact. Every bottle recycled, every drop of water saved, every watt conserved—all of it adds up."
Green Innovations Across SM Properties

Across the Philippines, the SM Green Movement is already making visible impact:

Solar Power at SM City Fairview: With a 3.785-Megawatt peak solar photovoltaic (PV) system made up of 6,882 solar modules across 4.3 hectares, this project currently holds the record as the largest rooftop solar PV installation on a commercial building in the country.

Water Recycling at SM City Baguio: A dedicated water treatment facility ensures that water is reused, conserving vital resources while fostering resilience against climate-related challenges.

Recycled Water at the Mall of Asia Complex: Water trucks carrying 100% recycled water are used to maintain greenery across the property, demonstrating innovative solutions for responsible water use.

Waste Management Through SM Cares: With color-coded bins for recyclables, compostables, and disposables, mallgoers are encouraged to “Bin It Right” and actively participate in waste segregation.
A Movement for Generations to Come

More than a corporate program, the SM Green Movement is a growing platform for advocacy and action. With every story shared and every sustainable practice embraced, SM Prime is proving that positive environmental change is within reach for every Filipino.

Through simple acts with lasting impact, SM Prime is building a greener tomorrow—one community, one household, and one choice at a time.

DTI and SM Supermalls Champion Philippine Coconut Industry at 2025 COCONUTPhilippines Trade Fair

September 14, 2025 0 Comments
The Philippine coconut industry took center stage at the recently concluded 2025 COCONUTPhilippines Trade Fair, held from August 28 to September 2 at SM Megamall. Organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in partnership with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), the event highlighted the power of the coconut as both an economic driver and a symbol of Filipino ingenuity.

Under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) mandated by Republic Act No. 11524, the trade fair became more than just an exhibition. It was a coconut-powered movement celebrating sustainability, farmer empowerment, and innovation across multiple industries.

Coconut Products by Proudly Filipino MSMEs

The trade fair showcased a diverse lineup of food, wellness, and lifestyle products made by Filipino micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). From virgin coconut oil and organic supplements to eco-friendly home essentials and coconut-based crafts, the event demonstrated how the humble coconut continues to create new opportunities for local communities.

Visitors were able to discover:

  • Nutritious coconut food products, such as chips, flour, and plant-based alternatives.
  • Wellness essentials, including oils, balms, and health supplements.
  • Sustainable lifestyle goods, from biodegradable cleaning products to handcrafted accessories.

These products proved how coconut farming can fuel creativity, build livelihoods, and empower Filipino farmers to reach both local and global markets.
Sustainability Meets Innovation

One of the highlights of the fair was the showcase of eco-friendly innovations powered by coconuts. Exhibitors demonstrated how coconut by-products can be transformed into biodegradable materials, green household items, and natural beauty products that promote healthier lifestyles and protect the environment.

“With support from DTI and SM, we’re able to reach more Filipino consumers and let more people discover our products. Kimes Foods today holds patents in 11 countries and distributes abroad,” said Dr. Priscilla Kimes of Kimes Foods (Cebu).

For many exhibitors, the event was also a testament to consistent government support. “Simula pa 2011, kasali na kami rito at full support talaga ang DTI sa amin. At kapag sa SM po ang trade fair, malakas talaga ang benta,” shared Randy Pineda, President of the Association of Bamboo and Coco Crafts of Tiwi (Albay).

SM Supermalls’ Commitment to MSMEs

As co-presenter of the trade fair, SM Supermalls reaffirmed its strong commitment to MSMEs by creating spaces that elevate local industries, expand market opportunities, and showcase proudly Filipino-made products.

“By bringing together coconut farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs under one roof, the COCONUTPhilippines Trade Fair not only strengthens the coconut industry but also empowers the communities behind it. SM Supermalls is proud to be part of this mission,” said Steven Tan, President of SM Supermalls.

SM’s support ensures that Filipino entrepreneurs—many of them farmers turned innovators—can connect directly with consumers, gain exposure, and scale their businesses in both local and global markets.

A Testament to Partnership and Growth

With over 220 exhibitors nationwide, the 2025 COCONUTPhilippines Trade Fair stood as a shining example of what government-private sector collaboration can achieve. The partnership between DTI, PCA, and SM Supermalls reflects a united effort to:

  • Drive inclusive growth in the agricultural sector.
  • Strengthen the global presence of Philippine coconut products.
  • Empower farmers, artisans, and MSMEs to thrive in a competitive economy.

The event not only celebrated the versatility of the coconut but also underscored its role in building a sustainable and inclusive future for Filipino communities.
Supporting Local, Empowering Farmers

The Philippine coconut industry remains one of the country’s strongest agricultural pillars. Through initiatives like the COCONUTPhilippines Trade Fair, Filipino farmers are given the recognition, support, and market access they deserve.

As SM Supermalls and DTI continue to collaborate on empowering MSMEs, events like this reaffirm a powerful message: supporting local means supporting Filipino farmers, families, and communities.

The 2025 COCONUTPhilippines Trade Fair at SM Megamall was more than an event—it was a celebration of resilience, sustainability, and Filipino pride, proving once again that the coconut is truly the “tree of life.”

For SM, success has always been about shared growth. “At SM, we’ve always believed that success is shared. From the very beginning, SM was built on trust and relationships. We only win when our partners win,” said Steven T. Tan, President of SM Supermalls.

This philosophy has been at the core of SM’s journey—from pioneering the country’s first supermalls to becoming a trusted partner for thousands of entrepreneurs and global brands. The same spirit of collaboration drives the New Era vision, ensuring that SM malls remain trusted spaces where Filipinos come together across generations.

All for You: A Bold New Era

The All for You vision goes beyond physical expansion. It represents SM’s commitment to evolve with its communities by offering:

  • Tenant-led retail ecosystems with flexible formats and collaborative platforms.
  • Sustainability initiatives, including eco-conscious designs, renewable energy, and smarter infrastructure.
  • Inclusive experiences that prioritize people-centered spaces where families, friends, and communities can thrive.

“This New Era is not about adding more malls,” Tan explained. “It is about creating destinations that matter, modernizing the malls people already love, and ensuring every Filipino has access to world-class malling experiences.”

40 Years of Partnership and Celebration

To mark its 40th anniversary, SM Supermalls is rolling out its biggest shopping celebration yet—with over 4,000 exclusive partner-powered deals across all 88 malls nationwide. This milestone underscores SM’s role not only as a retail hub but also as a partner in everyday life, growing hand in hand with its tenants and customers.

“For four decades, you’ve been with us every step of the way and for that, maraming salamat,” Tan said. “As we look ahead, we will keep evolving with you and for you. Because at SM, our success has always been shared.”

SM and DOST Lead the Future of Sustainability Through SUSTEX 2025

September 14, 2025 0 Comments
SM Prime Holdings, Inc., through SM Supermalls, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and ARISE Philippines, officially launched the first-ever SM Sustainability Expo (SUSTEX 2025) at the SMX Convention Center Aura in Taguig.

The two-day event, held from August 29 to 30, carried the theme “Innovation for Environmental Stewardship.” It brought together over 50 exhibitors, government leaders, the private sector, international organizations, and sustainability advocates to highlight groundbreaking solutions for a greener and more resilient Philippines.

A Symbolic Start: The Beat of Sustainability

The expo opened with a powerful ceremonial performance called the “Beat of Sustainability.” DOST Secretary Renato Solidum and SM Prime Executive Committee Chairman Hans T. Sy struck the Solidrum—a bamboo drum developed by the DOST–Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI).

They were joined by SM Supermalls President Steven Tan, SM Prime Vice President Jessica Sy-Bell, SM Supermalls Vice President Engr. Liza Silerio, and other dignitaries who played the angklung, a UNESCO-recognized bamboo instrument. The performance symbolized harmony, collaboration, and collective action toward sustainable development.

Leadership Perspectives: Science Meets Business

In his keynote, Hans Sy emphasized that sustainability is central to SM’s business model. He underscored the role of partnerships in driving real solutions:

“Public-private partnerships such as this show how science and business can unite to address some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. We encourage more of this as the private sector can provide support to projects by local scientists.”

DOST Secretary Renato Solidum echoed this, stressing that SUSTEX demonstrates how innovation and science fuel national resilience and enable a circular economy. He also introduced OneDOST4U: Solutions and Opportunities for All, which ensures that technologies created by Filipino scientists are accessible to businesses and communities.

“Science must not stay in journals or laboratories. It should be felt, lived, and experienced in the everyday lives of Filipinos. That is what we mean by Agham na Ramdam,” Solidum explained.

Both leaders called for tangible action—measurable results that move beyond talk, slogans, and brochures.

Innovation Marketplace: Over 50 Exhibitors

The heart of SUSTEX 2025 was its Innovation Marketplace, featuring more than 50 exhibitors showcasing sustainable technologies, projects, and business solutions.

Highlights included:

SM Prime and GUUN Environmental (Japan): Waste-Free Future campaign on advanced waste management.

ARISE Philippines: Disaster resilience strategies through private sector collaboration.

DENR Loop Forward Program: Circularity and large-scale waste reduction.

DOST-FPRDI: Sustainable Lalang Pandan furniture, essential oils from local plants, and bamboo instruments.

DOST-CHRG: Innovations in electric vehicle technology.

Visitors also engaged with FatHopes Energy, which converts used cooking oil into biofuels, and explored the DOST-PNRI booth to learn about nuclear science applications for sustainable development.

Knowledge Sharing and Collaboration

Beyond the exhibits, SUSTEX hosted panel discussions, fireside chats, and expert talks at the Ignite Stage. These sessions connected leaders, innovators, and businesses to exchange ideas and present actionable insights on sustainability, climate resilience, and science-led growth.

A Catalyst for Action

SUSTEX 2025 reinforced SM’s sustainability roadmap, which includes its Waste-Free Future campaign and its bold commitment to achieve Net Zero by 2040.

“May this Expo be more than an event. May it be a catalyst for collaboration, a hub for practical solutions, and a reminder that business can be a force for good—when guided by purpose, discipline, and partnership,” Hans Sy concluded.

SM at 40: A Legacy of Sustainable Development

Celebrating 40 Super Years, SM Supermalls continues to champion sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation across its 88 malls nationwide. From green architecture and energy efficiency to disaster resilience and climate action, SM is committed to shaping a future where communities thrive while protecting the planet.

Through initiatives like SUSTEX 2025, SM and DOST are not only showcasing Filipino ingenuity but also leading the way toward a more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive future for all Filipinos.
